Affordable Everyday Makeup Routine

Make up is essential to a girls head-to-toe look and something that we wear to make us feel glamorous and self confident. But sadly, makeup tends to be way over priced. Do you ever walk into Sephora, look around, try some samples, and then leave empty handed because the cheapest thing that you want in there is $30? Guilty as charged.

In my free time I like to watch make up tutorials on YouTube. I follow so many beauty channels that use all kinds of make up brands that range from high end like YSL, and drug store brands like wet-n-wild. I also look on pinterest for high end 'dupes' that you can buy at the drug store for a fraction of the cost.

So today I am going to share with ya'll my step-by-step affordable everyday makeup routine.

1. PRIMER

For primer I use Wet-n-Wild CoverAll Face Primer and apply it just as you would a moisturizer. $4.99 what a steal!

2. FOUNDATION
For foundation I use Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless Foundation in shade 332 Golden Caramel (when I have my fake tan on) and apply that with a damp (and dirty) Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge.

3. CONCEALER
This is my absolute FAVORITE concealer ever. (if you cant tell from how often is has been used) Maybelline Fit Me Concealer in shade 15 Fair Clair. I first apply using the doe foot applicator and place it under my eyes, down the bridge of my nose, cupids bow, and the center of my forehead, then blend with the same sponge that I used for my foundation.

4. SETTING POWDER
After I have applied my concealer, I make sure to set my entire face with Coty Airspun Translucent Extra Coverage Loose Face Powder and apply with any loose powder brush.

5. EYEBROWS
This step is very important in my routine since I have very splotchy eyebrows. I fill in my brows with Salon Perfect Done In One Brow Pomade in shade light brown.

6. BRONZER
This is hands down the best drug store bronzer and its only $3.62!!! Crazy! I apply NYC Smooth Skin Bronzing Powder in shade Sunny, with any bronzer brush, to the hollows of my cheeks, around the top of my forehead, and down my neck to even out the color.

7. HIGHLIGHTER
I apply Wet-n-Wild To Reflect Shimmer Palette in shade Boozy Brunch with a fan brush to my cheek bones, down the bridge of my nose, cupids bow, and on my brow bone.

8. BLUSH

This is the most perfect blush palette that has all the shades you could ever need! I apply one of the shades from the e.l.f. Powder Blush Palette in Light with an angled blush brush to the apples of my cheeks and blend backwards.

9. MASCARA

From what I hear, this is the number one drug store mascara, and I believe it. After curling my lashes, I apply Loreal Paris Voluminous Original Mascara in shade Blackest Black to my top and bottom lashes.

10. SETTING SPRAY
This last and final step is the most important step to ensure that your makeup last all day long! I liberally apply NYX Makeup Setting Spray - Dewy and let it completely dry.

I hope this post was helpful for you girlies struggling to find cheap make up that actually works!

How I Stay Healthy and Happy

Hey ya'll! So todays post is a little different from what I usually post, but I feel that a big part of my lifestyle is being healthy and that also plays into my style as well.
Before I started college I heard about the notorious "freshman 15" and told myself that I would never let that happen to me.... wrong. Between keystone light and dining halls that stay open until 2 a.m. I had found myself to be a victim of the freshman 15. At the start of freshman year I weighed 120lbs and at the end of spring semester I weighed 135lbs (I'm 5'7") therefore in total I gained the true freshman 15.
Since I proved myself wrong in thinking that I wouldn't gain the freshman 15, I decided to make a comeback.
That summer I started to make healthier choices when it came to choosing a meal. I would get grilled chicken and vegetables instead of chicken fingers and French fries (which I shouldn't be eating off the kids menu anymore anyways). I also wasn't drinking as much as I do when I'm at school which is another big factor in weight gain. For exercise I would swim 200 meters about 4 to 5 times a week since I work at a pool. I lost about 5lbs that summer and I just wasn't satisfied with myself. I knew that I could do better.
When I moved back to school for my sophomore year I was determined to lose weight. I found myself becoming so infatuated with my weight that it started to become unhealthy. For about three months I was bulimic. I would binge and purge and also take laxatives to rid all the food from my body. Once I realized what I was doing to my body I stopped, it took a while but I eventually beat bulimia. (Sorry for the dark paragraph, this is real life and happens all the time but there's always a way out!)
After Christmas break I really started to put my foot down and make a change. I cut out (most of the time) all dairy and gluten products. Gluten and dairy are substances that the human body isn't capable of regulating properly, so it initially stores up in your body causing weight gain. I made sure I to eat a full serving of fruit and a full serving of vegetables each day. For exercise, I started out by walking at a fast pace and increased incline on the tread meal for 30 min each day. I also took a few yoga and spin classes.
As a week went by I noticed how much better I felt and how happy I was, motivating me even more. I began to run at least a mile, sometimes two, lifting weights, doing squats, and working my core everyday and making sure to drink a protein shake after each workout to ensure muscle recovery.
It has now been around two months since I started this journey and I have managed to lose weight the HEALTHY way and have kept it off. I am currently back to 120 lbs and can proudly say "suck it!" to the freshman 15.
Here is a typical meal routine that I try to stick to:
Breakfast- high protein, protein bar. (I like zone bars)
Mid morning snack- banana, orange, green tea.
Lunch- a handful of almonds and pistachios, a few slices of turkey, blueberries, an apple, and cucumber slices.
Mid afternoon snack- this is usually when I work out so I have a post workout protein shake.
Dinner: a serving of brown rice, steamed mixed vegetables, and a chicken breast.
I really hope ya'll enjoyed this post as it brought me much joy being able to share this with ya'll! If anyone has any questions or would like to talk to me maybe about an eating disorder they are struggling with please please email me at katymclendon@hotmail.com and just know that help is out there and you can always find a way out.
